Donna Belk, the program
instructor, has studied and practiced yoga since 1975. Her teaching
is influenced by the Iyengar tradition (using precision in postures),
but Donna also emphasizes the importance of relaxation, and promotes
the idea of going no further in a posture than is comfortable.
Many postures are done in motion in rhythm to the student's breathing.
Donna
strongly believes that each student should go at their own pace
and relax into the postures. She teaches with humor, patience,
and continuously encourages students to appreciate themselves
for what they can do and to honor their limits.
Donna completed her yoga
teaching certification in 1995 through Yoga House in Austin, Texas.
She is a Registered Yoga Teacher through Yoga Alliance (E-RYT), and also a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists. She and
her partners, Charles MacInerney
and Ellen Smith offer a 200-hour hatha yoga teacher training through
the Living Yoga Program.
